Steam Bending

Hex:

Sturdy steam-bent oak legs- secured with curved braces at the base-sweep inwards to lie flush against the hexagonal top of this side table. This flowing form, juxtaposed by the angularity of the table’s top, was achieved through steaming the solid oak legs before flexing them around a pre-made form.

The table’s contrasting edge has been stained a rich dark brown using a pigment extracted from crushed walnut husks.

Curl:

The brackets for the Curl shelf are steamed from a single length of Cedar: the uninterrupted grain flows around the bracket’s shape, giving it surprising strength despite it’s slight appearance.

The shelf is supported from oversized keyhole mounts cut into the top of each bracket, and the shelf itself is cut from a single length of Ash.

Hestia:

The Hestia pendant lamp is designed to envoke the glowing embers of a campfire. The inner face of the Ash spokes glow warm with the orange light of the Edison bulb, whilst the blackened outer faces, stained to resemble charred logs, cast ever changing shadows around the room.
